Melisandre has been whispering crazy nothings in Stannis’ ear ever since the duo first waltzed onto Game of Thrones last season — but is the lady in red really as sinister as she seems? Carice Van Houten recently visited HollywoodLife.com to clear her character’s name and give us a sneak peek at what’s to come for Stannis and Melisandre as season three rolls on. (Spoiler alert: There could be trouble in paradise!)

“I would say ‘nasty stuff,’” Carice said when asked what we can expect from Melly in the future. “Not, per se, very friendly.”

The April 14 episode finds Stannis questioning Melisandre for the first time, as she leaves him in the dark about her latest business voyage. But Carice urged us not to jump to conclusions about her character’s motives, as it’s all a matter of perspective.

“[It's] for the greater good,” she explained. “You’ll see why I’m doing this.”
